HDPE is a light weight thermoplastic made from petroleum. Although only marginally more dense than LDPE it does have a higher tensile strength and can withstand somewhat higher temperatures. However unlike Polypropylene in cannot handle autoclaving. HDPE is resistant to many different solvents and chemicals. Common uses include: bottle caps, fuel tanks, milk jugs, and light load ball valves. It can be recycled with a class “2” code.
